Guidelines for Parents
If you think your child would like to be mentored, you can fill out an application which will be followed by interviews for both of you. This process helps us to make the best possible mentoring match. Our mentors are all carefully screened to make sure they are safe adults who will meet our standards. You should know that the mentor’s purpose is not to replace your role as parent. Instead the mentor is to be a friend and encourager. Keep the lines of communication open between yourself and the mentor. Feel free to share any concerns or questions.
We ask both the mentor and the child to commit to the relationship for one year. We stay in contact with each person to see how it is going. After 6 months we will evaluate the match and decide if you would like to continue.
When the mentor invites your child to an activity it is very helpful to encourage your child to participate. This is their responsibility and commitment to the mentoring relationship.
